Hey guys,

I bought a mac not long ago (half a year ago) thinking that it would be more stable with music production and performance (I use this in a live setting). No hiccups at all.

The problem is, I have not much mac experience to compare my windows (my main operating system I have used all my life) stability.

I have had blue screens and such (though not often, but very rarely something does come up eventually).

Anyways to keep this short, I have not had a mac error yet. I have in the past experienced windows crashes or errors. My younger brother got a laptop with windows 8 in it, and has also not experienced any crashes in this half year mark.

How stable is windows 8? I'm thinking of making the switch back on a laptop to windows. (I am still currently using windows 7 on my desktop.

Thanks! (Hope this is in the right section)

Yes, Windows 8 is stable, and windows 8.1 is even more stable.
BUT - Only when you have windows 8.1 from the beginning. Updating windows 8 to 8.1 via store makes OS slow and unstable (corrupted drivers and registry errors) - so buy a new computer already with windows 8.1 or buy windows 8.1 box (8.1, not 8 - please remember!).
1)
If you'll buy new computer with windows 8.1 - and you want your PC super-stable, first reinstall the OS again (to remove all unnecessary stuff from hardware maker, which slows down the PC), using windows key from the sticker on computer - If you don't have the DVD with OS, you can download illegal version - use this legal key from the sticker during the installation - and OS will be legal :)
When installed, wait...
Windows 8.1 is a perfectly stable OS. I run Windows 8.1 on an overclocked desktop and it runs great. The only time I experience crashes is when I'm messing around with my overclock, but that's my fault. I've never had Windows 8.1 crash once my overclock was stable. My wife also runs Windows 8.1 on a laptop and has not experienced any crashes yet. Of course things can happen like dead/dying hardware or poorly coded drivers, but the OS is stable.

I have had Windows 8 crash once in all the time I had it, and that was due to a driver issue, happened while I was still setting up my newly built computer and getting everything figured out, and it never happened again. I believe the thing that caused it was actually from ASUS and not windows anyway.

I could see apple being slightly more stable because they know what goes in their computers and can make sure the OS will work properly with what they put in it, but that's a price (and a fairly low one) that I would be willing to pay for greater variety and options for hardware (for windows)

When installed, wait for Windows Update to install the updates, reboot PC, then open Windows Update again and select all optional updates - there should be drivers displayed - here i recommend leaving computer for a couple of hours before checking and clicking "install", even when some drivers are there already (it will take up to 2 hours to detect important drivers, the rest of drivers can be found even days later). After next reboot, your PC is very healthy! - Just be aware of adware (eg. Browser Protect, Delta Search, Babylon Search)
2) When you have a DVD with windows 8.1, enter key from the box.

After reboot, your PC 'll be very healthy! - Just be aware of adware (eg. Browser Protect, Delta Search, Babylon Search)
