Hey guys, I am running Windows 8.1 64-Bit, today when I turned my computer on, I discovered that on the start screen there were no tiles on it at all, none of my programs, no desktop, nothing. When I click the little arrow button at the bottom to go to all apps, there is nothing there. I have tried CTRL+ALT+DELETE and tried to go to Task Manager, but it just doesn't open, and sometimes my computer freezes. I can see on my case that the little led for the hard drive is red, and I think the hard drive is doing something, or I don't know if it's supposed to flash. Yesterday night my computer was working perfectly fine, I don't know what's happened. Here are some pictures of what happens:

My pc specs:
OS: Windows 8.1 64-Bit
MB: Sabertooth X79
CPU: Intel I7-3820 3.60GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 1.5GB
RAM: 8GB dual channel ram (4x2GB)
If anyone can help me, thank you very much!

EDIT* About after half a hour, my desktop loaded but there was nothing on it, just my background and it was very slow, I couldn't access the start screen. Also when it went to my desktop, my fans started spinning faster.

EDIT* Later on Chrome opened but my pc was really laggy and things, couldn't do anything.

click windows button + D if this doesn't work on the metro screen in the bottom left there is an arrow pointing downwards click that and all the apps and programs are there from there you can right click any app/program and press 'Pin to Start' which will put it on the start screen hopefully this works..If not then i don't know what to tell you.

What's up Ghostsniper - this is SuperGhost :)

Hey did you resolve this issue? My first guess was maybe the CPU was overheating and thus running slow, but more likely a corrupted install of 8.1.

Hey, I just decided to reinstall windows since there was nothing I could do, couldn't refresh the pc cause the hard drive was locked, restore from an earlier point didn't work, scan and fix errors did nothing. I managed to save a few files, I went to that re-image thing, it asked me to look for something, I don't remember what, but I plugged a usb in and while that was open, I transferred some files to the usb. I know for sure the cpu wasn't overheating at the time, because it was at startup. I have a water cooler and at the time, I checked to see if it was running and everything was working perfectly fine. I guess the install was just corrupted

After an event like that I would be deeply suspicious of your hardware, especially your HDD. Might be worthwhile d'loading and creating a bootable diagnostic like Seatools for DOS which would guarantee a thorough check on the areas of the disk where Windows is installed.

Or this one if you have a WD and Seatools can't find it...

This just happened to me... I unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in and everything was back!
Tip: Don't mess around with task manager. This all started for me when I hit "end task" on file explorer lmfao
