Windows 8.1 update questions

I am trying to find out how to Verify my Account but I no email with any code was sent. I remember I used to be able to use the microsoft forums and technical help but now they want some Product id number. I have my 25 digit key but that is not working. If anyone can help me out on a guide or tips on how to make 8.1 just like like 8 that would be great. I can't even score my PC...
