[citation][nom]signothorn[/nom]"Despite any flaws, Windows 8 is a more secure platform, McAfee said, and that upgrading is definitely worth considering."McAfee is owned by Intel, who wants to sell more chips by selling more computers and hardware upgrades. Not a huge deal but they should really disclose this in the article when they make a statement like this, even if the article may be considered negative as a whole.[/citation]So how much did Microsoft pay McAfee to say Win8 is a more secure platform, if any thing Win8 is less secure thanks to the new Modern(Metro) UI.

I'd bet money on LEXX911 being correct. Probably quite a LOT of money as I think that's pretty safe especially when sales are down...LOL. Not quite sure why someone voted his comment down. These companies live or die based on YOU and your FEAR. If they don't scare you from using something free like comodo etc or a combo of a free firewall and av from diff vendors (like comodo AV with zonelabs firewall etc), they get hurt big time. The only way they will get your money is FEAR that the free one doesn't work or some other fear tactic. I guess somebody still believes everyone is out to help them and there are no nasty companies...LOL. They wouldn't create a virus...They're all great companies...ROFL. Everyone is honest... /sarcasm

Most companies would steal every dollar you had (politicians too...) if they could get away with it. I did say most. Queue down rating now, as I offended someone who hates the truth. You have to look hard to find companies that are actually doing you favors (google comes to mind, but they surely are using our data as evil as possible) that make the evil they do worth putting up with them. That's not saying I think companies are not doing us good (I like working..LOL some rich guy makes my job available) just saying most do quite a bit of evil to get big and then usually abuse it to stay on top. Nearly all big tech companies block any competition they can in any way they can killing tons of little companies below them. Most break the law even, doing it, but care not as the penalty is far less than they will make killing your company. :) Facts of life until the justice system makes the penalty fit the crime.

MS for example is a convicted monopoly. But pay states an avg of 11-23mil and you get away with crime (they were all in semi or real financial trouble so took a payoff allowing the monopoly to stay). They should have put them out of business or broke them up, NO PAYOFF allowed and Bill Gates should be in jail still for LYING in court over and over (I can't remember...ROFL...Right Bill, whatever). For this alone, I hope google kills them as long as they keep giving me what i want...LOL (good search, great products, low prices). When they start messing with my search, then I'll be praying for someone to kill their company too... :) Then again, if they offer unlimited internet in my area for $70 (I pay cox 100 for that) at anything above cox speeds I may not pray for their death for a long time (until they raise my rates...LOL). Cox gives 20mbit/s (plus some boost) for $100 unlimited business. We are all being ripped off until google rolls out everywhere in USA. Google could offer me 200mbps and we'd likely have a very long lovely relationship...I don't like them stomping on little guys much (they've done it with settlements here and there), but I'm all for them killing the Micorosft/Apple's of the world as long as they're helping us users for the most part. They're still doing some really cool stuff, but I can't say the same for MS lately. They would rather control my experience instead of give me what I want.

I have a bridge to sell you if you think all companies are good and do no evil...Quite the opposite I'm afraid. Lexx911 is likely right unfortunately. Our govt even does it (stuxnet anyone?). Of course Iran can go burn in hell :)

[citation][nom]SteelCity1981[/nom]yes because at 1.77% market share it's sure to be the next big thing. lol Hackers go where the popularity is and Windows 7 is highly popular gainging even more market share this past month to 45.1% so this is where the hackers will be focusing on, esp when corperations just upgraded to windows 7 recently.[/citation]
You're forgetting that most new PC's right now are Windows 8 (go into a Costco or BestBuy) & they WILL be EASY targets for stupid buyers that don't even know the difference between bits & bytes..

[citation][nom]sean1357[/nom]Tried Windows 8 for few days. Didn't like it. Go back to my lovely Windows 7.... heheheh. Maybe just run in VMware[/citation]
If you didn't like it, why would you even run it in VMware?
The inconvenience of running the VMware version and alting between the two is surely more hassle than the 60 seconds it takes installing one of the myriad Start 8 Menu freewares that will give you a fully functioning Windows 7-alike with all the under the hood enhancements.

The reason was some of my games don't work with Windows 8 and I also have full version of Start8. But I do need latest Windows 8 socket programming SSL.... That why I need in VMware....

Which games? The upgrade advisor gave me a list of a few games it said were incompatible, they weren't, some games also have publisher updates for compatability (like Dead Space)

I think Windows 8 will be more frustrating to hack than android/iOS for malware writers.
with it's shortcomings it is a real OS

Win8 may be very bad, but who's McAfee to talk? Looking at McAfee-Agent-Monitor on my office computer, I can see that this #$@#% POS software my moron IT management are forcing on us is hogging my resources for doing idiotic unhelpful things like 10-times-per-minute ALL DAY LONG! Scheduler, updater, management, subsystem, enforcing policy, adding DLP, checking blah blah blah .... etc.

Bottom line:
1. set folder view to show ALL hidden items.
2. Disable autoplay COMPLETELY.
3. LOOK at the usb/cd/disk you've just inserted. LOOK carefully before using.
I've never ever had an AV or any protective software in my life other than a firewall (ZoneAlarm, which I use the still use the same old free version of until today. Never had any problems).

well win8 has the lower-left corner, right-click to get to computer management, file explorer.
that and the tak manager are the only features worth switching to win8 over.

on the other hand no point in switching now, because the win8 sales is over, and it is full price now.

and all those if you are a "real" geek, you would have upgraded, dealt with the painand moved on.

although, switching to a mac is a better geek thing (ironically) because the mac has a REAL command line... a HARD CORE terminal command line.

or use linux... real men use linux (ya real Survival men!... and women) use linux...
Ha ha organic computing that is using Linux...
