I previously had an issue accessing the unsecured part of the NAS drive from a Windows 8 machine, it would say you don't have permission and say a username and password is incorrect. Somehow I got round this by running sysprep and re-setting up the user accounts. But now I have another issue, the protected folder in the NAS drive is inaccessible because it is password protected, but Windows 8 will not even let me enter a username or password for this protected folder. Windows 7 did it without blinking! It is quite obvious to me it is a Windows 8 issue but I just cannot find anything anywhere. I am in contact with Seagate - who take 7 days to reply and I have used the microsoft forum with no success, it's like I am the only one with this issue.

A bit of background info, we're a small charity organisation with a NAS drive that has a password protected folder for storing sensitive files. We have 6 computers, 3 of which need to access this password protected folder and 3 that just need to access the unprotected folders. We have a computer room with 12 computers in and I need help with them, but that is going to be another post.

UPDATE: To make it more confusing, if I set up a local user account in Windows 8 with the protected NAS drive folders credentials, everything works smoothly. Additionally, if I create a new local user account in Windows 8, it will allow access to the unprotected area of the NAS, but still wont allow the original Administrator access to the unprotected area of the NAS. I am lost and confused, I know I need to contact Microsoft but I just do not know how to explain it in simple terms or where to send it.

It would be helpful to know the make and model of the NAS drive in question as this may help shed some light on your scenario. The first area to check would be the advanced sharing settings in the Network and Sharing center of Windows 8. One user on the TechNet forums seemed to describe a similar issue and he was able to resolve it by performing a series of steps in a particular order. You might want to check out his resolution in this TechNet forums thread.

The more information you can provide, the better we will be able to assist you. Keep us posted on your progress!
