windows 8 on desktop and problems running sims 2 double deluxe

I just installed Sims 2 Double Deluxe on my gateway desktop that runs windows 8. When i click on the icon , it doesnt even start running the game program. A window pops up that says a program is preventing it from running. I ran the compatibility scan but it cant work it out either . What could be the problem and how can i fix it I miss this old game. thanks tom's I really like how helpful your site has been for me over the years . rita

What are your PC specs? Your OS and brand name is simply not enough.
