Windows 8 Upgrade Questions

I'm looking to upgrade from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 8 Pro

I ran the update assistant and only things I got back was this.

Your processor doesn't have NX turned on or might not support NX
Setup will attempt to turn on NX during installation. If your processor doesn't support NX, the installation will be cancelled and your PC will roll back to the current OS.


Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC
Your PC's firmware doesn't support Secure Boot so you won't be able to use it in Windows 8.


Can anyone help me out?

My build:

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HDD
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit
Intel Core i5-2500K
CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

The i5-2500K supports NX, as do all Intel CPUs for some time. Have you checked whether it's enabled in your BIOS?

Also, after checking what SchizTech stated, check that DEP is turned on and using hardware controlled DEP in System Properties. If not set in both the BIOS and inside Windows, it may not install and give you that message from what I've read.

Do yourself a favor save yourself time and money. Stick to win7.

I bought 3 new laptops for xmas for the wife and kids, they are all going to go to win7. I got the start menu back in 8 so thats a non issue. The issue is Win 8 is buggy and laggy. There are updates constantly. It might be ok after SP1 but for now it is a POS.

I have plenty of Win7 keys laying around so thats a non issue for me as well.

Windows 8 performs faster in my opinion and most tests support that.
There is a huge learning-curve, but once you get to used to it, you'll be finding that you are trying to do things in Windows 8's way, when you go back to a Windows 7 box.

In what way is Win 8 buggy or laggy? I've experienced neither.
