Windows 95 installation problem

Hi,
I have been asked to install Windows 95 on a desktop and am having some difficulty. Installation stops at scandisk and I get an ‘out of memory” error. After exiting scandisk I then get ‘memory allocation error’, ‘Cannot load COMMAND, system halted’ error. I have tried several things including using fdisk to format fat16 on primary and selecting ‘no’ to ‘enable large hard disk’. Where am I going wrong?

Gateway 300C with 80gb HDD and 512mb ram. I have an original 95 install disk and downloaded a 95 startup diskette I found online.

The best solutions would be to slap whoever asked around the face with a wet kipper for being so silly. If its an absolute must can you not use Hypervisor or VM??

I know, but he wants 95 and he IS about 95. Maybe it will remind him of his youth, I don't know. There should be someone that remembers how to do this out there. Anyone?

Windows 95 had issues with 512MB and above without resorting to some tricks. Try again with only 256MB or less.

I was able to resolve the issues. It seems that the 95 startup disk, the 95 installation disk, and the hdd format type all have to be in sync. The install disc is OEM with usb support, (still don't have usb working yet, but will), which means it is a later version of 95. The floppy image I was using just wasn't working so I found another, and after first trying fat16 with fdisk, the new startup disk and install disk wanted fat32 which I formatted using Hiren's boot disk. I am only writing all this on the off chance someone else has the same problem. Finally was able to install drivers too, (forgot what a pain in the ass that was with old OS). The last issue I have is finding a USB driver that works.
