Windows activation trouble

I recently bought am OEM key to upgrade windows 8.1 to windows 10. I was able to use the key to upgrade but when I got into the system I saw that it wasnt verified. I downloaded all the updates I could but that didnt fix it. I was jist wondering if I need to buy a retail key to activate windows

I purchased it off kinguin.com. I am new to system building and someone recommended to me

Well, that is likely the problem. Kinguin is not a legitimate seller of Microsoft products. The key you purchased is likely not valid. If you can, try and get your money back and purchase a legitimate key.

how long has it been since you tried to activate with the key. sometimes it can take up to 24 hours for it to contact the activation servers.

but like was said it was a key from Kinguin so it is likely a bad key

Yep, that's the problem.
License keys from these grey market sellers often return as 'not-genuine'. Because they are not genuine. Or already used.

It passes the initial entry, because it is a validly constructed string of characters.
Later, when it actually talks to the activation servers at the mothership..."Oh look, this license key on connor's PC has been used 17 times before. No Win 10 for you!"

Kinguin may not assist, so make sure you do a chargeback on your card if they're disagreeable. They process funds through the UK, so getting your money back should not be too challenging.
