I'm trying to install windows 10, but I can't for whatever reason. From what I've found online, people have this problem because they use an old hdd (mine is brand new) and have to clean it or their setting aren't on AHCI (which mine is). I'm at a loss.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
MOBO: Gigabyte AX370-Gaming K3
HDD: WD Blue 1 TB

I'm booting from a portable hardrive.

Ok, well get one, and then follow the instructions at the following link, including creating your installation media on flash drive.

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3567655/clean-installation-windows.html

Likely your problem is due to trying to install from an external USB hard drive or because there are no partitions created on the hard drive you are installing to yet. Following that guide will allow you to prepare the drive for installation and will automatically create the necessary partitions.

It's possible that the drive needs to be initialized first which is why you are having problems, possibly, but the Windows installer should take care of that automatically.
