I have tried several times to boot from my SSD, which is a clone of my current hard drive, which is running Windows. I am attempting to run the SSD and then format the HDD, but whenever I log back in it shows that I am running from the HDD. The SSD is first in the boot order, and I chose to boot it from boot management. What am I doing wrong?

What did you clone with? You also need to take the system reserved or uefi partition since they actually deal with starting the OS on most systems.

Check disk management(start + r and enter diskmgmt.msc) to see how the SSD and HDD look.

A good program for cloning is Reflect(I have used this for Windows 7 and 8/8.1 systems without issues).

This is free for personal use.

You can also save and mount images for inspection.

I have attempted this before, but it still fails to boot, as it displays an error message. The error message is something along the lines of "device unsuitable for boot, please insert a device and then click enter"
