Dear Forum!

I recently built a PC with the following components:

CPU: i7 5820k
RAM: 16GB Corsair LPX
Mainboard: Asus X99-A USB 3.1
SSD: Samsung EVO 500GB
HDD: WD Red 4TB

I started installing Windows by making sure I selected the correct drive for the installation -> my SSD. Windows did install successfully but unfortunately something went wrong.

I navigated to the BIOS to change the bootorder like so that my SSD was first and my HDD second (since Win10 was installed on my SSD). I saved all the settings and tried to reboot the PC but it threw be back into the BIOS immediately. When I selected the HDD as my fist boot-device the PC booted properly and there were no issues.

Concluding:
Win 10 installed on SSD
SSD selected as primary -> Doesn't boot
HDD selected as primary -> Boots

Furthermore, In my opinion the boot-time is way to slow for a SSD-based system. A friend of mine built a similar PC and it boots within ~10 sec and mine takes around 40!

Whats the matter here? I have absolutely no clue what I did wrong or how I can solve this issue.

Thank you guys in advance!

You should only ever have one drive connected (the ssd in your case) when you first install windows .

Otherwise you can end up with the actual windows install on the ssd but the boot partition on the other drive.

Which sounds like exactly what's happened

The fix - physically disconnect the secondary drive & reinstall windows on the ssd from scratch.

Ok that sounds like what I did...

Is there any way to move the boot partition to the SSD without formatting it?

Wow! This worked perfectly! Thanks :)
