Question Windows keeps replacing AMD Driver

Hello, first of all I'd like to mention that I'm not that computer-savvy, but I do understand a little bit since I've been working with a desktop PC for several years.
Here are my PC details (these are cheap-built and frankly, not quite up to date due to budget):

Asrock H110M-HDV
Intel core i3-6100 Skylake
AMD Radeon RX 460 (brand: His RX 460 iCooler OC)
ram 2x8GB Klevv DDR4 PC 25600 3200Mhz
PSU Seasonic 520W

My problem is my Windows 10 keeps replacing my AMD with an old driver, so I have to keep reinstalling the driver with the new one.

This has been going on and off for more than a year. I have done any possible solutions on the internet, such as:

- pausing Windows Update
- disabling Windows Update through registry
- Limit metered connection
- Prevent driver installation for a specific device (in this case my graphic driver) through gpedit
- etc that I dont remember

Those solutions went fine after some time, sometimes for several months, sometime once in a month, but nothing give permanent solution because Windows will always find a way to update the driver after some time.

My symptoms (happens randomly):

- The display becomes stretched/not fit during start up
- sometimes my display/monitor just went back to black screen when I was playing a game (CPU still on so I had to force shutdown)
- sometimes it freezes during start up that I had to plug-unplug my RAM and it turned back on (I replaced my RAM sticks for this, but I doubt my old RAM was faulty because i only had it for 4 years)

I brought my PC to a technician and he didn't find anything odd. He was just managing my cables and cleaned my cpu, ran a Furmark test for an hour, and said my computer was fine.

Then recently my friend told me it might be overheat, so I reapplied a thermal paste and checked with Core Temp it was fine already. But today my display went blank again with a CPU still on. This time when I turned it back on again, my display wasn't stretched so I didn't need to reinstall my graphics driver.

Do I need to change my gpu? I bought it in 2016.
I'm just wondering if it's really a problem with my gpu or it's just.... well Windows.

Please let me know any feedbacks you have.

hank you.

I had the same issue with the monitor going blank on occasion requiring a hard boot. After some research, occasionally the AMD free-sync drivers get corrupted causing it to blank the screen. On restart the display is all wonky and needed the drivers re-installed.

I have a Samsung CRG9-C49RG9 monitor with a Gigabyte AMD 5700XT graphics card. It is most common with higher resolution monitors. Mine is running 5120x1440 @ 120mhz.

The latest AMD Adrenalin software version seems to have litigated the issue.

I also updated the drivers for the Monitor after realizing it was listed in the Device Manager as a "Generic Monitor"

It's AMD specific and has been going on for at least 3 years, probably longer (how long I've had AMD). The driver Windows pushes breaks adrenaline.

Not sure how TH is on direct links but there is an update manager called WuMgr by David Xantos on Github. Disable the update service via whatever means you find and never again open Windows Update. WuMgr will let you check for updates without forcing you to install them. If an AMD driver shows up, you simply hit hide in WU and it doesn't see it until a new broken version is released. You can install all updates therein. Been using it for over 3 years and not a single GPU driver issue since

I feel like my monitor is not set up to be such a high rate. , I'm using LG Ultrawide 25UM58, 2560x1080, @ 60 Mhz.
I also just updated AMD Adrenaline to be the latest update.

Regarding the driver for the monitor, I'm not sure where to update it? It also listed as "Generic PnP monitor".

I was wondering if it's easier to just change from AMD to Nvidia to prevent such issues? Eventhough my gpu is still good but i also had it for like 7 years.

Regarding the update manager, I recently purchased a 1 year subscription from Avast Driver Updater, is WuMgr works the same way as this one?
I tried to run a scan and there are 6 that needs to be updated. Do you think all of these are important?

That junk should never be used. Always grab drivers yourself from the OEM support page (or if pre-built, their page).

If you have money and your card is 7 years old it might be worth the switch

Do you possibly have any input of what card(s) suitable with the rest of my stuff?
I'm kind of afraid if I choose either too high or too low quality.
Also was there any issues similar like AMD that happened with Nvidia cards?

Also the issue happened once again just now while I'm playing a game. The monitor suddenly went blank/black, the sound from the game was still running for a few seconds, CPU keeps running, but I can't press/click anything. So I had to force restart from the power button.
When the desktop came on, the display is stretched & basically had the wrong resolution. AMD driver also said to be unresponsive.
But this time I didn't reinstall the driver, I just simply restart again from the menu. And my display went back to normal.

COuld this be a hardware issue instead of any interfere from windows?

LG has drivers for windows 10 for your monitor. Monitor Drivers are only INF files that give windows additional information to fine tune the display. The generic pnp monitor can have issues when handling display errors and normally reverts to 1920x1080 when gpu drivers are present.

Don't use this stuff. Get all your drivers direct from the OEM. - LG, AMD, etc. Never use some Generic Driver Update program because they will tend to install newer drivers that may not be supported by older systems.

About all they are good for is to let you know that an update for a piece of hardware may have been made for your system. Go to the OEM and see if an update and get it from them.

Could be anything to be honest. Your CPU is from 2015, so components could be on their last leg, MB capacitors going bad...
Windows could be corrupt.

Might be worth investing in a new machine altogether. I didn't look at the specs initially, a new card will probably bottleneck with that CPU. If you insist on keeping it, I'd suggest a fresh install to rule out software.

I have installed the newest update for my LG monitor, and so far I can play games without it going black screen. I have no issues at the moment. But then again I will wait for like a week to see if there's no other issues. If the solution is just updating my monitor driver then... it will be wonderful! Thanks for the advice.

Since I actually need to work with dual monitor, this afternoon my brother lend me a spare monitor. It's a Samsung S19D300, I think just an old build regular LCD monitor.
Do I need to get a driver for this one too? I plugged it in and it works just fine. I haven't tried playing a game on my main LG monitor with this one just being on, though.

The Samsung S19D300 is an older model so it probably isn't necessary - however it doesn't hurt to check for Windows 10 drivers on samsung's support page.

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Hello, I randomly checking my Event Viewer when my PC restarting in a sudden. It shows that "Critical" thing there. What does that usually indicates?

I noticed that my PC rebooting suddenly mostly when I played a game, but usually it reboots after I played for a few hours.
Another time when I was just working with my Chrome, I usually opened a lot of tabs due to my administrative job that requires me to open dozens of google sheets tabs. I opened my Spotify to listen for a podcast. Then after a while it made my computer rebooted suddenly.
Again, none of my display looking weird after I restarted, it shows normal. I began to think that the issue is no longer my gpu.

What do you guys think?

It may be time to look at your PSU if it starts happening on a regular basis You have shown that you only have a 520W PSU, but is it rated (bronze, silver, gold ...). It may not be able to supply adequate power to the GPU for extended periods.
