Windows ME errors when I try to install on a real computer

Why are you trying to install Windows ME, probably the worst OS Microsoft ever inflicted upon its users? If this is an older system, you would be better served by one of the many Linux distros (free by the way).

If a newer system (than Win ME vintage), you may have other viable Windows version options.

What are the specs for the system in question here?

Uff, this takes some rust blowing off...
So...
1) Check your CD-ROM is enabled and visible in BIOS (Assuming IDE/ATAPI)
2) Check you can actually boot cd-rom (Win XP, Ultimate Boot CD, Linux distro...)
3) If both above are positive, you have to find and get correct driver, the universal one doesn't necessary need to work with your particular machine. Bear in mind you might have to configure it, you'll have to update config.sys/autoexec.bat

but really, winME? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKF9g_BKmXU&index=51&list=PLlrQRD4Rfv_DpjCYqW4DbipcL_DwXaiuY :)

Windows ME is fine. The PC is a HP Compaq 6710b. Made in 2006?

How to you copy it to C:

it's not gonna be online

Then you have nothing to worry about. Good luck.

I'm still using Windows ME to this day since about 2000. What are you trying to install it on? If you have a SATA CD-ROM drive, this isn't going to work. Windows 9x/ME only came with IDE drivers, so you can't install it on a SATA hard drive, especially not with a SATA cd-rom. You can't just put drivers on your computer. The problem is not hard-drive related. It is CD related, which leads me to believe strongly that you are trying to do this on a SATA CD-ROM. What computer do you have? I'll look up the model and check.

Sorry, I did not see until now you actually did mention your computer and it is from 2006. Computers began to get SATA as a standard around 2005. You are probably screwed unless you buy an IDE hard drive and CD-ROM. Or you could do it the harder way and slip the sata drivers onto the Windows ME cd. I forget how to do it, you need Nero Burning software to slip in the drivers. I did it once to get Windows XP to install on SATA XD that was a nightmare.

What drivers do I put on the CD?
