I have a new laptop with an i3 10th gen, 4gb ddr4 ram, 1tb 7200rpm hdd, windows 10. I use only Microsoft word & chrome on it. I don't have any other softwares, 800+ gb is free in my hdd. But, my laptop runs very slow (I know 4gb ram isn't good enough. But, just a word editor & a browser don't deserve much)
Task manager always shows a long list of programs & services running (especially the 'antimalware services executable' that always tops in resource consumption), consuming all my ram & disk usage. It's like I bought the laptop only for those programs & services to run in the background, not for my use
How to stop those background processes?

You can debloat win10 and turn off all telemetry so it only use 2gb when running.

https://github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater

I have done this myself and now my box runs very quietly and isn’t running stuff in the background all the time and only uses two gigs when running of available ram

The telemetry stuff is the stuff I get really angry about. It’s my CPU in my ram and they can stop using it for their own purposes and running their own stupid diagnostics. This is why I am probably going to migrate to Linux sooner than later because I’m sick of having to play games

You can WUB And with that tool you can completely disable windows updates an update when you feel like it if you want as well...

Look in task manager/startup.
Disable unneeded stuff.
With just 4GB of ram your going to have a constant fight.

"4gb ddr4 ram "

Not much else to be said.
That laptop WILL be slow.
Yes I know that it isn't good enough. But, I don't think it's worth to add another 4gb ram for my work, only word & chrome. I have a windows 7 pc with even low specs that runs a lot more smoother. 3.5 gb ram is always available as free to use, contrast to my windows 10 laptop that always has 3.5gb occupied. So, I feel like windows 10 is using my resources for its own use (those background processes). I don't want those graphic intensive UI, classic start menu & the like that come with windows 10. I just want a clean & simple PC that suits my work well. I could flash a windows 7 on my laptop, but fear losing a genuine licensed OS that came pre loaded. So I am better looking for ways to get ride of those background processes & free more ram

You can do a fresh install of Windows 10 to clean up everything on the system. That’s the first step me and my company take when we setup a new PC.

You could also consider getting and SSD (Solid State Drive) to replace the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). The performance should increase, but it will still be limited by the RAM.

Edit: What model laptop do you have? You could potentially add more RAM

Now my little box runs happy and fast with never a complaint and nothings running in the background when I don’t want it to I am in complete control and they are not going to take it away from me if I have to leave them eventually I will

Mine is a new one. It only has single ram slot. If it had another slot, I would add a 4gb ram to make the overall ram 8gb. But, now I can only buy an 8gb stick, rendering my built-in 4gb stick of no use
