Windows shortcuts don't work

On a friend's computer, the shortcuts to My Documents, Control Panel, My
Pictures, etc. don't work. As soon as I try to open one, a screen pops up
informing me that Dr. Watson has detected a problem and will be shutting
done the computer for everyone's safety. What should I do?

You might want to get your windows xp CD and boot up to it and run a repair
on the OS.
