Sounds like a tuff war on OS. But I do like win8. Able to do whatever win7 can do and more. Plus less memory requirement, boot up and run faster. Live tiles are a lot better than those dead icons.

There Won't be a Next Windows 8 Update in 2015, because 2015 is the New Next Microsoft Windows Might be Windows 9 With New Features, Faster & With New DirectX 12!
I Wish & Hope to come true.

apple version number nomenclature here.

X.Y.Z

X = Major version number
Y = Minor Version number
Z = Update Version

also I do not consider 8 -> 8.1 a minor version update. Microsoft needs to understand that they cannot constantly revamp IE and its functionality every OS release. My bank still doesn't support IE11 for its online banking and I have several customers that cannot use IE11 for their intranet applications. I put pressure on them to update their programs but it is just as much on Microsoft to stop breaking reverse compatibility at every turn. I would settle for an option in my toolbar that is render as IE9, IE10 and IE11 and I know it is possible because it is in the developer options. I just cant explain that to end users so they can make their intranet site work.

Oh yeah and it should not be an "automatic" update either. functionality changes should not be automatic.

windows 9 now renamed flashback.

restore windows 7 look and feel, destroy all metro apps and UI.

(since a few people liked the mtg comments.)

wow just a few trolls lurking in here lol
I just rolled out 3 student labs with win 8.1 and we tested with the students before (windows 7 and after windows 8), the only thing that we did was configure the start tiles so that they had just the tiles that they needed to use, it was faster to load and also faster for the student to find and open the application that they wanted.

Sure it looks different and if you dont spend any time to adjust it to your needs or bother to learn it it will be horrible but once you understand it and set it up its much better

Completely unscientific. You compared it to what? Selecting the app from the start menu? An icon on the desktop? The taskbar? Of course pressing the first and only thing they see would be easier and faster.

How about you test opening an application starting from the desktop that is not tiled on the start menu, or at least flood the start menu with about 50 other applications. Or better yet, test copying text from a web page to a word document with both web browser and Word running in metro mode.

LOL I never claimed to be a scientist.I compared it to how the students actually use the lab computers at present. ie on win 7 clicking start and browsing through to open their app vs clicking on a tile, boot times are also faster.

are there things that i don't like with 8/8.1 , yes but as per my original post in our environment for our usage it is faster and easier for the kids to use.

@amk-aka-Phantom: spot on, man. Hardcore Windows dev here, selling off a Win8 device after 3 months and buying something real with Win7 Pro. I tried to put up with this junk, even tried to like it, but will probably never look back.
