Hello everyone,

I was hoping you could help me solve a strange problem that started happening semi-recently on my Windows 10 custom PC.

Sometimes when I turn my computer on and I get to my desktop, the WiFi icon at the bottom right of the screen doesn't appear, and I am unable to open any programs with the exception of Microsoft Edge. When I try to open anything on the Desktop, I get the spinning blue wheel, and if I try to open anything from my start menu, nothing happens. After about 5 minutes, the WiFi icon appears and I can open programs again, but after about 30 minutes nothing will open. The problem persists until I restart my computer, which will then run normally for hours.

This doesn't happen every time I start my computer, but when it does happen I have to hold the power button to shut down because the computer doesn't fully turn off. The screen will turn black, but the power LED and fans won't turn off. I am worried that by having to manually shut my computer down using the power button every time this problem comes up, I might damage it somehow.

I was hoping to solve this problem without doing a system restore if possible.

One last note, I am 99% sure this isn't being caused by a virus. I've run virus and malware scans in normal and safe mode and both Kapersky 2016 and Malwarebytes show that my computer is virus free. This computer is mainly used for music production, so I rarely even use the internet on it outside of Facebook and YouTube.

Here are the components in my PC:

Gigabyte Z97-MX-Gaming 5 MoBo
Intel i7 4790k CPU
G.Skill X 8 GB (2 x 4gb sticks) RAM
Intel 535 Series 120 GB SSD (boot drive)
Western Digital Blue Series 1TB HDD
Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I (rev. 1.0) Wireless Network Adapter PCI-E Card
Windows 10 Home 64 bit OS

The issue you've stated can come about with the corruption of OS files. Prior to any S related troubleshooting, have you made sure your BIOS and remaining device drivers are up to date? Are your wireless adapters drivers up to date? On that note, have you tried disabling the onboard Killer Ethernet in your BIOS as well as removing the Killer/Atheros/Qualcomm drivers and seen if the issue is persistent?

Try and perform a repair install and see if your OS is back to functioning order.
