Hi,

I have just built a custom pc. Nothing fancy. It's an SFF, full details below:

Ryzen 7 3700x
Corsair H60 AIO cooler
Sabrent NVME 512gb
SandDisk SSD 480gb
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD
2 Noctua Fans
B450 Aorus WiFi Mobo
32gb 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance
650w EVGA 80+G PSU
GT 710 GPU*

*
- I got this GPU as a place holder until my 3070 order arrives. I wanted to get the pc ready and quite frankly, just wanted to have peace of mind that the components are not damaged.

So all went well. Installed windows and the rest of my programs. Then the problems began to appear:

1. I have a bluetooth mouse (mx master from logitech) - When connected to this pc via bluetooth, it disconnects. And when I say disconnects, I dont mean that the bluetooth switch turns off. It just simply stops working although everything is on and I can see in the bluetooth section that my pc is still connected to the mouse (navigating using my keyboard).

The fix for this is very odd - I press the windows key, type in bluetooth, press enter, and as soon as I am in that bluetooth window, my mouse regains consciousness. Obviously this is not ideal at all as it happens during games as well.

2. Windows Stops in Time

It's not your typical windows freeze. For example, if you open any resource monitor app (including the one from task manager) , the values will constantly fluctuate as they are updated every second.

When my "freeze" happens, the values stop updating. They remain frozen in place, my mouse stops working but I can still use my keyboard.

I still retain some functionality such as, I can still use the windows key and shut down my pc however if I search for anything, nothing will populate.

I could still CTRL+ALT+DEL and open task manager again but it wont update.

Never encountered this before. Could it be the GPU's fault?

Thanks.

Solution
PC shouldn't forget what devices are paired to it via BT. It shouldn't suddenly remember when you open window.
can you check the mouse works okay on another PC? It might be the mouse itself?

Sabrent don't appear to have any tools
Sandisk have this - https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5363-sandisk-ssd-toolkit.html
Seagate have https://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/downloads/seatools/seatools-win-master/

enough S names already :)
um, to test sabrent, you could use https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel_trial.php and check the drives health with any tests the trial offers. SMART score also might show something.

1. i assume it uses its own dongle. Wonder if its a conflict between the onboard BT and the dongle. Are you using the Wi-Fi antennae on the PC?
it might not be cause, just thinking out loud.

2. Try running scans on your nvme and ssd, see if they are healthy as if PC works during freeze but you just can't access files, it could be storage that's hanging. Include running seatools on the seeagate.

Hi.

  1. Nope. no dongle. Its connected via bluetooth to the onboard BT of the mobo.
  2. Do you recommend any specific software to run the tests on?

Thanks

Thanks for the above.
It appears that my 1TB HDD has a failed sector. The rest of the SSDs are fine.

Seatools was recommending seaboot which i installed. Sadly their own tool does not detect my HDD so can't use it.

I'll remove the drive and see if I still encounter issues (hopefully not).

Regarding the mouse, I have it connected to other pc's with no issues. its just this one I have a issue with.

Thanks again.

hmm, if you anything like me, if you run the intel driver updater it will only offer WIFI drivers - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html (feels weird running intel update on an AMD system)

this sounds familiar
I have a problem with my bluetooth devices in Windows 10 pro (Version 10.0.19041 Build 19041). What's happening is that I have a bluetooth mouse paired to my computer and it randomly stops working UNTIL I open up the bluetooth settings, as soon as I open up the setting the mouse (and keyboard if I have it on) suddenly start working again.
The fix:

  1. Go into Services
  2. Look for the service called "Bluetooth Support Service" and open the properties
  3. Go into "Recovery"
  4. Change the 'Subsequent failures" from "Take no action" to "Restart the service"

So just an update regarding the Seagate HDD - I ran Seatools software and I managed to apply the "Fix all-short" and Fix-all-long" version which sorted out the failed sector on my drive.
I've been running the pc from this morning and it seems to be ok so far.

I also applied the fix for the mouse you mentioned above. Ill monitor and let you know if it worked.

Thanks!
