Windows To Go Page File?

I followed the steps in this article: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/create-portable-windows-11-disk

Every time the computer boots it complains it made a temporary page file, and that page file seems to be 0. Computer performance is bad (like it has no page file). Games won't run, complain out of memory.

What did I do wrong or need to fix?

Windows has never allowed a page file to exist on external media.

And even if it did (it doesn't), that would be a further performance hit.

I agree. It was always on the C: drive. OP might be thinking of the DOS page files, or "RAM drives", which were allowed on other drives besides the C: drive. But I believe those were made with third-party software, not vanilla MS-DOS.

Windows To Go was never meant to be used in the manner you're using it. It was meant for IT departments to have some Windows to boot to without installing it so they can do their IT things on the target computer.

So honestly, there's no fix. You're using the wrong tool for the job.
