Windows Update causing svchost memory leak

Why do you have WU running in the first place ? My standard build procedure is:

1. Install Windows

2. Disable WU (Check for updates but allow me to decide when (if) to install them)

3. Disable WU ability to install hardware drivers

Look at
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2889748

There also was an issue related to Win 10 upgrade crap.... you will just have to let it scan for updates over night

I just formatted and reinstalled my old and trusted windows 7

Usually after a fresh win7 install there are around 100 updates or so....I have done this a thousand times and this is the first time this happens to me, it is stuck in the proccess without finding anything and makes my system unusable on top of that

Btw I had already set it at "Check for updates but allow me to decide when (if) to install them", didnt stop it from happening

I also found this
https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/3frcib/heads_up_kb3050265_fixes_major_memory_leak_in/

But it wont let me install any of these updates, when I run them the windows update service restarts and they just hang up

I will try to install manually the whole Rollup update in the morning, if not I will just re-format I guess, Im getting tired of this thing...

No, it like saying you have a brain.

I firmly believe that Microsoft’s Automatic Update is for chumps, and I’ve said so for years: go ahead and let Microsoft notify you when it wants to install something on your computer, but don’t blindly allow the ‘Softies to install whatever they want. Follow the instructions on the next tab to set Windows to “Notify but don’t download” its patches.

You are not disabling Windows Update, you are disabling WUs ability to install updates w/o your knowledge or consent which allows:

1. You to avoid the dozens of WUs that went sour and resulted in PC downtime

2. Allows you to avoid installing pesky Win10 upgrade affiliated.
No reference needed, makes headlines in financial mags

3. Allows you to avoid installing Win 10 tracking features (telemetry)

Hi
Assume that you have a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2). You install Windows Management Framework 3.0 by installing update 2506143 or update 2506146 on the computer. In this situation, after the computer runs for a while, you experience high memory usage by the Svchost.exe process.
