Windows update totally corrupted installation

Commands have been switched (in Open Office - instead of control z to undo, it zooms out), some pages won't fully load, menus don't work, the volume control gets stuck - I'm thinking I might have to totally wipe my laptop and reinstall Windows 7. I tried running system restore but it wouldn't restore - is a total wipe and reformat necessary?

Eww bud, that sounds nasty.

Are you sure you don't have a virus? Either way, you know your stuff, so I assume you've already tried quite a bit of things, I'd do a total wipe yea....

If it wont let you restore to the last known good configuration, you're kinda out of options.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking - I set my external hard drive to backup my data and it's gonna take 8 hours. I've seen this happen before - my work computer did this and I had to wipe Windows but my work computer has a 64GB SSD vs my laptops 750GB :ouch:.
