Windows Updates taking unusually long

Hey guys, I've had an issue with my PC performance and updates with Windows. About 2 weeks ago, I decided to update to Windows 10, and the process took 8 hours (I had 250gb of files transferred). I have a PNY 120GB SSD that my OS is installed on, and a i7 4770. A day or two later, I was still experiencing some PC performance issues so I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10. The process took 9.5 hours. From what I have read online and heard from friends... this is an egregiously long time, and the process shouldn't take more than 2 hours. Anyways, I was frustrated and decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 and that process "only" took 2.5 hours but ever since then my PC has been extremely slow and struggles to do any sort of multi-tasking. I didn't have my motherboard so I manually installed all the drivers, and took it to Frys for them to install any potential missing drivers and to run diagnostics (said everything was fine) but my PC is still struggling to Update Windows right now and the process is taking such a long time I'm not sure if it's even downloading/installing. It should be noted that I never updated Windows after my fresh install, since I basically took it to the shop the next morning.

What could be causing my updates now and when I was upgrading to Windows 10 to be so slow?

That's not uncommon, what with Windows 10 being rolled out and a lot of people switching from Windows 7 and 8, the Microsoft servers have been backlogged; a few months ago people were complaining of waiting up to 72 hours for updates to complete. There's probably nothing wrong with your system.
