Trying to install win vista to upgrade to seven when i can go on the internet, and when i go to install it, i get a message that says "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, cd, dvd, or usb flash drive, please insert it now."
i would like any advice on the matter.
Thanks and have a great day!

well I see a lot of the usb install crap not work out also where did you get a copy of that vista ?? your not trying to boot leg this in some way ?? seems that may come up when the security check cant find a legal copy ?? so you get that ''required''

I got xp - vista and 7 all full retail disks and don't run in to any of theses issues ??

ya, the more I look at it I think seeing that its a rebranded oem drive for hp use it may have a hp proprietary firmware - these drives were used with a few prebuilts like dell as well

like from what it says here '' developed by:HP''

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIRMWARE/Others/HP-Pavilion-m7690n-TSSTcorp-CD-DVDW-TS-H653-Firmware-414.shtml

its a old tsst [Toshiba] drive but can and will a retail firmware flash to it and help ?? or for 12 -20 bucks get a new drive that's meant to work with everything like the ones you just buy from newegg ?

or see if a friend or someone got a extra drive around you can use to see if that gets you back on track ??

now

motherboard costs a lot more can get a drive cheap - and then you still don't know if the hp drive will work on any non hp board so you would be in the same boat pluss the extra cost of a new motherboard you may not of needed

also some of these new parts/motherboards may not carry any vista support so you need to see if the board will show support for vista .. this also maybe why it will not load now -- vista got killed off hard - little supports it anymore

its the reason why I had to move up to 7 cause no one supports vista anymore

well that usb deal for what I see here at toms on it is a joke

you may go to Microsoft and read up on the usb install seems I remember the usb drive had to be a certain kind or set up a certain way to work as well .. the you got to worry about not getting a bad download .. just too much of a waste of time when you can just get a retail hard copy on a disk and be done with it ..

from the link above

'' Can I use my newly created USB drive to install Windows on someone else's computer?

No. The Windows ISO file on the USB drive is only intended to be used to install Windows on the licensed user’s own computer

so when you tested it on a different computer and it worked it did it now get flagged by Microsoft and is now not valid ??

see I'm just going to say to you like I do the rest buy the retail copy on the disk and be done with it ..
