Windows/XBL conflicts?

Just wondering if anyone has had this before.

My XBL hasn't worked for about 5 months. It worked off and on for about 6
weeks, and other than 1 day after that, nothing. So I'm trying to get it
going again. I re-installed/configured the router. I have my Xbox settings
set to get the IP address etc. automatically. It still shows up as 0.0.0 on
the Xbox.

Anyways, after messing around with the settings on my Xbox, I came back to
my computer and noticed an error. It says there is an IP address conflict
with another system on the network. Well, the only other system is the Xbox,
and the only thing using the IP address would be XBL. Could this be
something that's stopping Live from working? I've never seen this error
before, so I have no idea why it's showing up now.

Any help is appreciated.

I hear that the Xbox support forums has many of the answers that you are
looking for.

If possible, turn off all other devices that are connected to your
router, and see if the conflict goes away.

Set your XBox to manual IP address, and give it a unique IP.

I hate to say it, but have you tried connecting the xbox directly to
the modem? I wouldn't waste my time w/ the router until you are sure
it isn't the xbox.

You do have a standalone router don't you? I do not understand why you
are worried about a conflict unless you _are_ using ICS.

If the xbox connects fine directly, try forcing the IP address in the
Xbox dashboard.

Make any sense?

That seems to have done the trick, but I left the computer off as someone
else suggested. I'll see if it still works later with the computer on.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. It was nice to play online for a
change.
