Hi, I've used the Windows XP Backup facility in the 'Performance and
Maintenance' section of the Control Panel. I backed up to a Maxtor external
hard drive with approximatly 55G.B of free space. The backup facility has
created a 4G.B file but I received an error message that there was not enough
room. Do I have a working backup and can I safely ignore the error message?
(I have not found this issue addressed in the Knowledge Base.) Please advise.
Many thanks, Stephen

Hello Stephen,
It depends on what files you backed up. You can use the back-up option
in XP to only back up the files that are most important you.

Apparently, your external hard drive is formatted FAT32.
You need to format it NTFS if you wish to transfer files
larger than 4GB to it.

1. Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.
2. Click on DISK MANAGEMENT.
3. Right-click on your external drive and select FORMAT.
4. Select NTFS from the File System pull-down menu.
5. Click on OK.
