Hi there,
I am having some big problems installing windows xp, i have just built a new system from some old parts of mine and some new ones which i bought, it boots fine etc. So i boot up my windows xp disc and it runs, i press enter for setup, f8 to accept agreement, then press c on the unpartitioned space to create a partition on my new hard disk, then it formats the disk, loads a load of files up and saves them, then it says that the 1st part of setup is complete and the computer will now reboot, after that setup is supposed to resume,

However it loops back to the start of the setup and i have to agree the EULA again and then if i select to install again on the now partitioned space it says i cannot create windows there as there is already a windows present, so i tried reformatting and creating a new partition and it comes up to the same part saying setup will resume after the reboot but it goes right back to the start again. It is driving me nuts and hopefully someone has had a similar problem and can help me before i throw this computer out the window :x

Thanks in advance to any help/advice.

hi.
after you get to the point to restart system,
configure the system to boot form hd not cd rom.
this should solve the problem.

ok i have set all the boot devices as hard disk, i removed the xp cd before it rebooted but when it boots up it fails to recognise windows on the hard disk and gives me a disk read failure and prompts me to enter the cd, back to the same stage :<.
I then tried it with a different hard drive which i formatted as fat32 as is under 32gb, this one got all the way to the installation after the reboot but it blue screened with a stop 0x000000CA error, which is something to do with antec smartcard viewers - never used one of these :s. I decided to reformat this time using ntfs, it got to the same point and i got a different blue screen error = 0x0000007A. The main concern though is why the new hard disk which is a seagate barracuda 80gb wont boot up itself. Never had this many problems with a windows installation before. :x

Do a Memtest... might have bad RAM... never hurts to be sure. Power supply may also be a problem, but check the RAM first to eliminate that. It's also possible that the hard drive is going.

I would definitely run memtest first. You might also try testing the hard drive as well. If you didn't completely wipe the drive, a corrupt Master Boot Record can cause blue screens on installation, otherwise it's very possibly a hardware issue.

If you need to test out the system, Ultimate Boot CD is pretty awesome (and free), and it includes both memtest86+ as well as HDD diagnostic software. You can get latest ISO (CD image) file at the website:

yep i agree with the momory testing suggestions
you can also swap the modules in and out of the board to see if you get different results during the second phase of setup (wizard)
