Windows XP & SSDs

Solution

Windows XP does well on SSDs, but one thing about that is that it doesn't support most of the SSDs features, like TRIM, or garbage collection, which speeds up your SSD, from time to time, but can see why your holding out.

Go with windows 7, its the last one to feature a start menu, as windows 8 does away with it and replaces it with a start screen, basically a screen with program tiles, rather then a menu, which makes it about 5 to 10...

That is because XP does not natively support SATA or an SSD, you would have to edit the ISO and add the driver to the installer or ISO and add it manually to the installer.
I highly advise you to upgrade to windows 7, as XP is scheduled to be unsupported as of march / april of next year.

Hello DComander1x,

Thanks for the help. I went into the BIOS and by renaming the SSD as an IDE, tricked WinXP into installing the OS. It is working like a charm!
I realize that I will have to upgrade to either 7 or 8, but am holding out as long as possible. Do you have a preference?

Solution
im buying an ssd with an pata interface, should I anticipate any issues, im also running windows xp on an older laptop ( travelmate 240) i'de replace the os with something that doesn't absolutly kill the performance. if anyone has s suggestion, that isn't Linux , I'd be welcome to give it a try, the machine will have 2bg of ram, 2.5 gHz processor, I was really hoping to find a android build, I'm told 4.3 works on this exact machine but I have yet to find an iso, I'm willing to try just about anything. i'll go the live usb stick rout to see if it works then install it, I just don't feel like trying 50 diff distro's to get there. is there a group that keeps a list of working OS and off the shelf machines? like a hardware compatibility list for full pc's? I have seen android run on some older machines, I admit most had bugs but wow the performance is insane, the big things I see is the loss of some hardware, like the camera doesn't work or some other peripheral, and you cant play any windows games and apps.
