Are you on a Novel network by any chance?

Have you scanned for viruses?
Free Online Virus Scan
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Have you scanned for adware and spyware?

If not, then run Ad-Aware SE Personal (first) and SpyBot-Search & Destroy
(second).
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html
After you install each, you should click update before running. For example,
with Ad-Aware click on the link "Check for updates now" on the first screen
that appears after you launch the application.

I have also heard good reports about the Damage Cleanup Engine from Trend
Micro at
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Good luck and keep us posted.

OK, so you are not on a Novell network. So you should then proceed with my
next step which as you can see below is to scan for viruses. If this passes,
go to the next step and scan for spyware, and so on.
