Ok so i need some urgent help. My situation is that im in school, and my school pc(Win8) keeps crashing on me, and I plan to send it back in for warranty work next time it goes out. Now this is where my problem thickens...My other laptop(win7) went out on me last night, and i dont know how long the Win8 laptop can hold out, before it crashes again. I also have a desktop that has Windows 7 Pro 64 on it.

I need to be able to access the desktop, while im at school for obvious reasons. i keep loosing all my school work, and notes that i get, and its getting old real quick.

I need to know the quickest simplest way to turn my desktop into a server. I am new to the server area, so please be kind. I have found the following link http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1821382/configure-windows-vpn-server.html and didnt know if this was the novice way, or is there something better suited for my needs. i would also like to add that is there anyway that i can wake the desktop up, when i connect to it, or is it gonna be running all the time?

my school laptop is an asus http://www.cnet.com/laptops/asus-x55c-dh31-15/4505-3121_7-35486142.html

my other laptop is an hp http://www.pcworld.com/product/872171/pavilion-g6-1a69us-15-6-quot-charcoal-gray-notebook.html

my desktop is custom built, but the run down is it has an asus sabertooth 990fx, amd quad core processor, one 250 gig hhd for the os, two 1tb hdd for storage, i didnt raid the thing when i built it, but i also didnt know what i was doing at the time. it also has a 750 watt psu, and a evga 550ti gfx card.

thanks in advance. K.Filkins

thanks for the reply, but would this allow me to wake the desktop up when it goes to sleep, or do i need to keep the machine running full tilt. my pockets are thin, and only work 15-20hr a week so having the desktop running full tilt would probably break me.

i wouldnt mind having full access to whatever i need, for future usage also.
