OK, so here's the deal.

I am doing a clean install of WinME with the following components:

Asus A7A266 mobo
AMD Athlon 1.2GHz 266MHzFSB
Crucial PC2100 512MB
IBM 60GXP 60MB HDD

I've done several installs of ME, a few with this chip and mobo even, without encountering this problem....

After setting up the BIOS, I went ahead with the next phase of installation. Startup disk goes in, I run fdisk, I set up my partions. Now it's time to reboot and format everything, and that's where things get fun.

First of all, a few times the system has just hung while loading up the basic drivers. Most of the time, it makes it to to the loading of the RAMdrive - then locks up and gives me a divide overflow error. The rest of the time, it gets just past the RAMdrive load then tells me that there's an invalid command.com error.

So far I've tried different chip, different memory, and several different startup disks, all to no avail. I've also checked the BIOS and everything is set up right (boot virus detection disabled for example). Still nothing.

Any ideas? It's driving me up the %*@&ing wall. HUGE thanks for anyone with a solution for me to try!

Try it with just one partition first maybe. You can use partition magic to create the partitions later. Also, how do you have your cdrom drive set up?

Another computer wanted. Donations accepted. :^)

Sounds like a termination problem. Are your ide drives installed correctly? Also, when in doubt, clear the cmos (or remove the mobo battery) and reset you bios settings.
