I am looking to upgrade to either WinMe or Win2000. I was wondering if WinMe is as stable as Win2000. I am really only looking for two things. An effective internet connection sharing program and a stable operating system. WinMe is about $100 cheaper than Win2000, so if it is just as good in these two areas, i'd like to get that. Any input would be great

what???? win2k is cheaper than winME??? both of those are free, free i tell you. don't they give that away to people. i hear something called ftp servers and warez, cuteftp, hotline, and many more are giving it away.

Thats a perfect example of why microsoft is going to screw us over with their piracy protection with the release of whistler. Keep it up "flavio" your welfare approach to getting software is making me sick 🙁
As for the other gentlemans question i run ME on my three game systems and 2000 on my business machine. The only problem i had with ME was a soundcard driver issue. It wouldnt recognize my diamond mx 300. I couldnt find any new drivers for it so i through in a SB Live with no probs with the ME drivers supplied. Out of the box ME is a little resource hungry, but with a few tweaks is running as fast as 98 did. If you have a cable or dsl connection you may find that your downloads are faster too,due to the fact that the registry is optomized for the faster connection. I have all the machines on a lan using a netgear router and no probs whatsoever. I have not had 1 bluescreen, lockup, or other crashes since installing it a couple of months ago.
The windows 2000 machine runs nice too, and most games are supported (but not all). Driver support is another issue with win2k but that gets better every day:). A little bit mor resource hungry so if your using a low end machine i would go with ME

All in all both systems are stable, easily networkable, and with continued driver support most headaches will be solved. I would wait until i get more opinions from others or look around the board for other posts before i made a choice. Some people are having problems with me so it would be wise to get their experience too

good luck with the new OS

They have cracked Whistler already. Not a problem. Its a very simple crack. MS's security isn't very good at all.

I also have Adelphia Powerlink. I had the 1way ISA internal card for a while and now I have the 2way external surfboard. It was terrible at first, then they worked all the bugs out of it in my area and all is great now. It only comes unlocked about once a month. It is very fast (except upload speed). I believe that Adelphia has also added to its tech support recently so hold time is less than 5 minutes.
It keeps getting better.
