WinXP LAN Wireless Printer COnnection

I have an XP desktop, connected to our LAN directly. I'm trying to (unsuccessfully) get it to connect to an 8600 Pro Wifi printer. The desktop is plugged into one of the LAN ports on the WiFi/Router. Tried downloading and running the HP wireless printer troubleshooter- it won't run. Anybody have any advice or can point me to guides? I can connect the printer directly to the desktop via USB, but it is eating me up that I can't make the LAN/WiFi connection (and, eventually it'll have to be moved to another room so USB wil be a temporary fix anyway).
