Wired connection is same speed as wireless

My wireless internet connection has been pretty bad lately, so i finally decided to switch to wired. The only reason to why i havent done it earlier is because i live on the first floor and the router is on the second, so i need a very long cable pluss i need to drill a lot of holes to wire the cable to my room.

Before buying a cable i wanted to test how much faster my internet would be with a cable, I moved the PC upstairs beside the router and connected it to the router with a short cable that i had from before. Usually, my wireless connection is about 1.8mbps (i know, its slow. We are changing our internet provider soon). I connected the PC to the router with an ethernet cable and the connection remained the same, but this time it is at least stable.

One post suggested that I should deactive and then activate the ethernet network, but it didnt change anything. Anyone knows a solution to this problem?

If the internet speed is the same, then you either have a slow connection in general to the ISP or the issue is with the router or modem. Did you try rebooting them both? Test with another system?

Apparent the "boss" only paid for 1.6mb service. Wired is always more stable at any speed.
