Wired connection not working

Just built a new pc. Went to plug it into my network thru Ethernet and it will not work. Router is working just fine and I have tried most of the troubleshooting options I could think of. Is there possibly drivers I'm missing? I am very worried about having to be stuck with a shoddy wireless connection from a dongle. Please help!
