Wired mouse disconnecting! Help

For about a year I've noticed my wired mouse keeps disconnecting. (It's hard not to notice )

I recently checked the USB on the end of it and it has gunk/crap on it. I was wondering if there's a way to fix this or if I'll have to go buy a new mouse. Any help with this is appreciated

Just clean that crap with paper towel. But it's probably not the reason, why mouse is disconnecting.
Most likely mouse cord is damaged from extensive use. Try bending the cord in different places until you find one in witch mouse disconnects.

Depending on damage location it might be possible to shorten the cord. If not, then you'll have to replace the cord completely.
