Wireless Adapter issues

I've been experiencing episodes in which every thirty seconds to three minutes, my wireless adapter will drop my internet connection and reconnect within moments, giving way to MASSIVE problems with online gaming. I've had this issue for the longest time on Windows XP, and now upgrading to 8.1, the problem continues.

I have a LinkSys Wireless-G PCI Adapter, Model WMP54G.

The router is about 30 feet from my computer, past two walls max. The neighbors have wired connections. If it helps, I had the adapter for about two months before issues started appearing. Could it simply be a faulty adapter? My other wireless devices aren't having this problem.

Try a driver update first. Then maybe a new WiFi adapter.

Up the power to the transmitter in the wireless device. Power management setting in control pandel, select the wireless device to be using max performance.(windows 8 enabled low power settings as the default)
