my wireless connection no longer shows up on the connections available list. If I look at all the connections in the network management part - there it is! But i can't find a way to connect to it. I haven't changed anything, it just disappeared one day. We have 2 PCs in the house and neither can see the connection.
I have tried resetting the factory settings on the router (TP-Link) but that made no difference.
Any thoughts?

If you have reset your router to the factory settings, the network's name is no longer going to be what you set it to. You will need to reset it to your original settings.

As for why it disappeared, there's no telling now. A factory reset would wipe out any possible logs on the router.

The connections in Network Management are just profiles that Windows stores when you connect to a network. If the network itself is no longer there for some reason (different location, failed router, etc.), it will still show up there, but you can't connect to it.

Thank you, Casey. This information helped me get connected again -- which was really all i need. It would have been nice also to know WHY it disappeared, but at the end of the day I am just happy to be linked up again.

Glad to hear you got it connected again.

Some routers just tend to be a bit flaky sometimes, especially if they are older ones. I have a Linksys RT31P2 (combo Vonage phone adapter/router) that I can no longer use as the main router in my house because it stops all routing at random times. I ended up replacing it with a Linksys E2500 and everything works again.

Not sure how old your router is, but it may be suffering from the same problem.
