Good day,
I've recently installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop as it was running slow. It previously had 7 on it and the OS had never been touched. I made a copy of the drivers and installed them as soon as 8 was installed. Everything seems to be working fine except for the wireless.
It is telling me that the driver is installed and that the device is working properly, yet in Windows 8 it says that the Wifi is turned off and that it cannot detect any networks. I've played around in the settings to make sure it wasn't a silly setting that had been turned on or something.
Next I tried to download new drivers that were released end of 2014 (so would more likely work with 8.1) and when I installed them it was telling me that the drivers installed were newer than the ones I was trying to install.
I then went into BIOS thinking that there might have been something changed in there, but everything seems fine. I loaded setup defaults just in case - something which fixed the wireless problem before - and it still would not work.
I plugged in the ethernet cable from my desktop and the internet works fine on there. I have tried various scans and tests and nothing is helping to try and fix it. I need the laptop soon as I am going to be taking it somewhere and I'll need internet.
Can anyone give some useful insight into why it's being so shitty with me? I was beginning to like 8.1 too...
Thanks,
-Lewis
EDIT: Forgot to mention - when I run Troubleshoot it says that Wireless capability is turned off. No idea why. As mentioned driver reports that the device is working properly.
Also there is no physical switch to turn on/off the wireless, only one for Bluetooth.
