Hi,

I will in the next week or so install a wireless network for a
hotel/motel. Can anyone advise if there is a special type of equipment I
should be using? There are 3 floors in the hotel... Do you think a
simple linksys router would do the job?

Regards,

One will probably do for the bar. Its very hard to say without knowing the
hotel shape and its dimensions, how many rooms per floor etc.

Errr...setting up a wireless network for a hotel is a rather complicated
task. It's not just done by installing a WLAN router.

You will have to think about...
- ranges / placement of the APs (you will need more then one)
- the connection of the APs to the gateway
- the gateway itself
- security
- an ISP
- billing and accounting?
- teaching the personal how the system works
- and interface where the homeland security guys can plug in (USA only) ;-)
- a thousand other things

At first you may need an access point and a laptop. Go through every room
with the laptop while placing the AP on the floor to find out how many APs
you need and where to place them.

Two tips;

1) Carry out a extensive site survey.
2) Do not use Linksys but opt for some quality...
