Hi,
Not sure if I posted this in the correct area, but since my problem is software, I stuck it here. (BTW this is going to be a long story. I believe i need to fill you all in on the story.)

I was given a pc from a friend to keep as a gift. It was used as a server, but using PC components. (Non-ecc ram ect). It was LGA 1156 and had an i5 which was way better than my PC which was an i3 and LGA 755. I took out my mobo and put the new one in only to encounter a barrage of problems. First it would turn on as soon as i switched the PSU on, but it would not post nor display video. A CMOS battery reset fixed it. Then it would not play nice with 2 DIMMS of RAM but only 1. So I tried enableding XMP profile in the BIOS when it died. It tried to turn on again but died a split second afterward. Pressing the power button would make it turn on then die.

I put my old mobo back in with no problems and it booted straight to windows. Now my wireless mouse was in the front USB ports but i moved it two the back ones as I was not sure how to connect the headers to the motherboard. Windows loaded and my mouse was extreamly laggy. I would move and it would stop and reappear seconds after. I rebooted and moved to another USB port. Now windows was saying the USB device malfunctioned. After that, it stopped working completly and the installing driver popup will not appear when i plug the reciever in. But does for other USB devices. I have tried every driver solution the internet has to offer with no avail. Stupid me has no restore point either. Only solution I can think of is to reinstall windows.

I would greatly appreciate any advice,

"Only solution I can think of is to reinstall windows"

You got it. That should have been done after installing a different motherboard anyway since doing so renders the existing Windows installation invalid. It contains a shed load of wrong drivers which itself causes all kinds of problems, plus the registry contains hardware ID relating to the old motherboard. Not good.

I guess I can try that even though it will be a pain. Even though the only problem is my mouse. My logitech gaming keyboard has no problem and even remembed my profiles. One more thing. Since posting this, I have tried my mouse in other computers and it is no longer regognised. Earlier this morning the mouse worked with my laptop but on second try it does not. Each computer I plug it into the 'installing device driver' popup does not appear. Its asif my mouse is spreading some virus...
