I'd like to start of saying first and foremost, to the community of www.tomshardware.com. You all inspire me to be a better person. The help I receive when I post on these forums is unparalleled. Thank you for all the help you have given me thus far I am almost a computer genius myself now.
However, I'm still a rook when it comes to networking.
I just got mediatek ralink usb 2.0 802.11N wireless adapter i bought off amazon for 6 bucks.
Just hooked it up last night... and now it seems like the wireless network in the house is slow on every device. The internet disconnects.. then reconnects... then when it is connected you get very slow speeds.. im talking so slow you cant even log into my pc games and when i do i just get booted off again.
Comcast just had us upgrade our modem to the standard xfinity comcast router.. its got the built in wifi and the telephone lines and stuff to it.. i can look up the exact model if needed, its just the standard xfinity comcast modem though.
I had problems with this modem before at the last place i lived. I talked to my old roomate they said it was because we were using the lower speed line..... i guess comcast gives you two lines? and you can choose to connect to the stronger line if you uwant... however... idk if our comcast plan is like that. maybe i just have one line? idk how to tell.... would there be another wifi already made id be able to connect to im just not aware of? or do i have to go into my comcast settings... which i forget exactly how to do othat something like 0.1.0.1.43 or something, you know the drill....
Please help idk what to do.. I'm going to start researching and see what I can come up with.. I might call comcast it could just be comcast is having problems today i mean it does happen, just seems odd it happens soon as i hook up my wifi adapter and connect to the internet
