Hello. I have a Lexmark x4530 printer which has wireless connectivity. There really isn't a network issue other than wireless connections and wired connections. I am able to print from my laptop to the printer wireless but when I have my desktop computer on and connected via wired to the printer, the laptop will not print wireless. Once I disconnect the wired connection from the Desktop computer, the laptop will print.

Shouldn't I be able to use multiple computers to share that Lexmark printer: Wired and wireless without having to disconnect one. It would seem I would be given a choice when I am trying to print from a device from where I want to print. I must have set it up incorrectly.

Solution
The Epson printer and Samsung printer - during setup, it asks if you are connecting USB or network, choose network. It should automatically find the printer.
I haven't configured a Lexmark printer....but I have an Epson and Samsung printer - both are wireless. I configured them via wireless through the router...no direct connection. No need for the wired connection (you do not need a wi-fi adapter on your PC - as long as it is connected to the router via ethernet - it should work.

The only time I use USB on this one is if I want to scan from within MSpaint.

If I put something under the lid. Pretty stupid, otherwise the option is ghosted. This is because WIA isnt enabled if the USB cable isnt connected

But if i use Canon MP Navigator, I can do the same thing wirelessly

My Brother 2270DW can network both WiFi and wired- but not simultaneously. It can be configured to do either, but they will not connect to both. need to choose which mode you want it in. As long as it is connected to the network, you should be able to print to it from any of the computers.

You do not need to have a wired connection from the desktop to the printer. With the printer connected wirelessly to the network, it is part of your LAN, as is your desktop. The desktop should see the printer via its own LAN connection.

I am really in the wrong forum because I do not have a network. I only have regular FIOS and using the FIOS wireless capabilities for the printer.

Printer connected to FIOS?
Laptop connected to FIOS?
Desktop connected to FIOS?

If "yes" to all the above, then you have a network.

I will have to look at it. I already installed the software. I guess I could reinstall it, unless there are options after I installed it.

It did work. I still had to connect via USB to install the wireless connection. I just used the wireless wizard and it found it. I then disconnected the USB connection and it printed without it. You always learn something. I never realized that. Thanks to everyone on this list to pointing me in the right direction.

I was looking at it in terms of a traditional network of wired connections but as you point out, I am on a network but it is a wireless network. It is nice to learn something. thanks
