This error is why i could never run Windows 8.1 on my machine and it seems to of transferred over to windows 10 too. My PC boots fine everything's working but usually if i am doing something like watching a YouTube video or on my PS4 playing online my internet will cut off and my wireless with have the Square box with a red cross, if i unplug my adapter and plug it back in it comes back on. But its a bit frustrating when I'm playing a multiplayer game on my PC or chatting on Skype for my adapter to crash. I've had this issue with my old netgear wireless adapter and this one.

It happens around 2-5 times an hour, i looked it up and I've tried many fixes some of which include:
Setting power settings to Max Performance.
Setting the Adapter to not turn off to save power
Reinstalling drivers
Turning off Bluetooth

I have looked in the Windows Event Log and i seem to get 2 events every time this occurs and they say:

WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.
Module Path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmihvsrv64.dll

and

The network interface "ASUS USB-AC53 802.11ac Wireless USB Adapter" has begun resetting. There will be a momentary disruption in network connectivity while the hardware resets.
Reason: The network driver requested that it be reset.
This network interface has reset 15 time(s) since it was last initialized.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i like Windows 10 but i can't use it if my internet keeps cutting out randomly.

There is no Windows 10 driver for the USB adapter, but there is a Windows 8.1 driver and when i had Windows 8.1 and used the cosponsoring driver i still had the issue. weather i had the up to date driver or not. I completed removed the driver and utilities and reinstalled them and still have the same issue.

Thing is i had a Wireless adapter before that had the same problem, my friend now has it and it works find on Windows 8 and 10. I brought this one because it was for Windows 8 and the problem still happens on whatever wireless dongle i use.

The exact same thing is happening to me. I went straight from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and after the upgrade it has been happening to me. My friend has the same adapter and software but it doesn't happen to him, after the same exact upgrade.

The only thing i can think of is a software compatibility issue, but it happens to me on fresh installs too.

I have tried nearly every solution ive come across searching the internet and nothing has worked :/

Yeah my thoughts is it is just an isolated bug in Windows 8 and 10. Some people may get it some may not. Hopefully they release a Windows update soon fixing a lot of the bugs, with this one included, that is if it is an issue within Windows itself and not Netgear.

Problem is that regardless of whether Windows updates come out for Windows 10, we can't download it because we can't access the internet to begin with.

Could be an issue with the hardware. I am using a wireless usb adapter from TP-LINK (having a Realtek RTL8188EU) on windows 10 on my desktop from more than a week without any issues at all.

I've had the same exact problem with my WLAN in my Lenovo G580 laptop, and a brand new PC. The laptop has a broadcom 802.11n wireless adapter inside, and always worked absolutely great, but about 4-5 months ago, windows 8.1 updates stopped it working. I found the update had changed the driver to a microsoft supplied driver, so I switched it back to the broadcom. Problem solved until the most recent windows updates. I attempted to upgrade to W10 to see if it changed, but nope, it actually made the problem worse. Now the wireless card doesn't work for more than 30 minutes after it's been off for a while. I suspect it may be damaged; by what, I don't know. I switched to a big knobbly belkin wifi dongle sticking out of the side of my laptop. It works with W8.1 (I rolled back to 8.1 once I had all the updates installed and no fix.).

On the PC, it came running W8.1, and working perfectly. I'm in an area of the house that needs wifi access, not wired. I was using a A6100 USB wifi adapter from netgear. It was great until I upgraded to W10. I checked the Mfr website, and they say only A6200 and above are supported by W10. (edit: forgot to mention I had to switch to a realtek driver to run the A6100 as is) So the only solution on the PC is to change the driver everytime I turn it on, and then roll it back to the previous driver. It doesn't help to reset the adapter or uninstall/reinstall.

Long term plan is to find a PCIe wifi adapter for the PC that is supported by W10, and a new WLAN card for the laptop but apparently, this is going to either take time or research...possibly both, and most definitely money.

Hope this helps in exposing a little more of how we have to upgrade our hardware or wait for someone else to supply a fix. I would be insanely grateful if someone found a real way to save these components too!

Im having the exact same issue. I have to unplug the adaptor then plug it back in. That fixes it for a while. This only started happening since my upgrade to win10, was fine on win7

I think most of the people facing the same problem in this thread is the software(Driver/New OS) problem and tried to
work out with many physical method but in vain.

Really difficult to solve... ><"

Hope that Asus really will do something to fix it!
Actually, i don't think Asus staff was telling the truth..........

First install netgear driver.
In device manager, right click the ac53 wifi adapter to open properties, in driver tab, click "update driver", click "browser my computer for driver software", click "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", click "have disk".
If u are using 64bit windows, browser to "[SYSTEM_DRIVE]\program files(x86)\netgear\driver" and choose a inf file and click "ok". Sorry I don't remember the exact location and inf filename. Finally choose netgear a6200 driver and press next and driver install will start.

Once I installed the Netgear driver I right click on the Windows Icon for the start bar --> Device Manager --> Right click Asus USB-AC53 -->Update Driver Software --> Browse my computer for driver software --> Let me pick from a list of of device drivers on my computer --> Unchecked Show Compatible Hardware --> Left Sub Menu Manufacturer: NETGEAR,Inc | Right Sub menu Model: NETGEAR A6200 Adapter --> Next --> Update Driver Warning Click Yes, and it will install mine timed out the first install just let it run, then it will say you need to reboot eventually. Once again thank you to chrisngwp for the solution.

Awesome. Works great now. This was driving me crazy. Had to use my backup TP-link AC1200 T4U because the connection wouldn't stay connected with the AC53.

I had to reinstall the original AC53 driver before using the netgear a6200 in order for it to work. Now I'm rock stable.
Once again thanks so much chrisngwp
