Witcher 3 resolution causes monitor to go to sleep

i don't quite have the specs to run the witcher 3 maxed out at 4k with a framerate above 40 so i settle for 1440p which runs at a nice 70+ but my 4k samsung u28e590d doesn't like it when i don't run games in 4k so it goes to sleep, most often with the witcher. The only way i can end up getting the game to show up is by repeatedly hitting the windows key to go to the desktop and try opening it until it decides to work. Any way i can fix this? maybe a setting i can change? i have an i7 6700k and a gtx 980 if thats relevant.

im not trying to get a better frame rate or resolution, im trying to keep the monitor from going to sleep when i open the application. I am running 1440 and i believe thats whats causing the monitor to go to sleep since everything else is runnign at 4k
