So this happened the first time two days ago and now it happened again: I'm playing Witcher 3 (on max settings and 1440p downsampled) and suddenly out of nowhere my PC shuts down like someone pulled the power plug, no error message or anything. Sometimes it then automatically restarts. Im like 75h in and been playing since the 19th, but this has just happened now and with the 1.04 version of the game.

My PC:

i5 3570k 3,4ghz
Palit super jetstream gtx980(got it new for witcher)
8gb RAM
Be Quiet 650w PSU(got it new for 980)
2 HDDs
No SSDs or disk drives

Right now I'm suspecting that something is wrong with the current game patch, but on the other hand it's just so weird that it shuts down completely.

Under applications?

The only error I see is Event ID 10 and then there are 2 warnings Event ID 2002.

Today at noon the shutdown happened while watching a youtube video as well. When I restarted and "touched" the PSU with my fingers to feel for heat my PC restarted. So I figured it's most likely a faulty PSU with loose contact. Then now I played Witcher 3 again for like 5 hours straight without a crash, until it now shutdown again. This time my PC wouldn't start anymore. Both the PSU as well as the GPU felt very hot, although 10min later when my PC started again(almost as if it needed to cool off or sth) it still felt hot but according to speedfan the GPU is at 47° at idle, so maybe the hotness I felt was normal, idk.

Running the game gives me 55-60° CPU temp and 63-73° GPU temp atm.

Check the errors under System. That's where stuff like this goes.

It definitely sounds like your system is overheating, you need to cool down your room or give your system better airflow.

Ok so I logged it again while playing over a longer period and max GPU temperature was 74°, max CPU temperature 64°. Even in the seconds before the shutdown, there was nothing "out of the ordinary". My room can indeed be kinda warm but still my pc case already is open and everything worked flawlessly until like 3 days ago. So something must have happened/changed, no?

I chcked the system errors and there's Error Event ID 6008 telling me the previous system shutdown was unexpected and Critical Event ID 41 "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

I also noticed that with 3 out of the 4 latest shutdowns the last 2 entries prior to the shutdown-time were always "The Adobe Flash Player Update Service service entered the running state." and "The Adobe Flash Player Update Service service entered the stopped state." at the same time. Could there be any connection there?

Does your outlet have enough power?

Could be a faulty component...

More then likely the PSU. Nothing monitors the temps in a PSU and your GPU and CPU temps appear o.k. The big clues here are: 1. If I read correctly your PC restarted when you touched the PSU; static electricity - maybe; minor malfunction/short in the PSU - good chance. 2. The system has to cool down to restart; that could be Motherboard, CPU, or even GPU but it really sounds like internal component(s) of the PSU - especially since you said you have the case open.
Borrow a KNOWN, good, working PSU of around the same wattage and swap out yours: If you don't get the crashes you will know it was the PSU. It is important to use a known working PSU as new PSU's have been known to be bad out-of-the-box.

xeno97, boszlo, and fakkov: Welcome to Tom's. I am not convinced it is a hardware issue. I have the same problem, the only thing, it only happens when I play Witcher 3, nothing else does it. If it was hardware, one would think that it would do it when other programs are running also.
