Hello,
I am receiving the "local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration" when I directly connect my PC to my modem via Ethernet cord. But if I connect the modem to my router then then connect that to my PC, I have a connection. I have two PC's connected to my router and when I try to directly connect them each to my modem I get the error for both. I have tried to manually input an IP whilst directly connected to the modem with no results. I've ran a slew of ip command in the cmd prompt (ipconfig /release etc etc) that I neither understand nor even have the slightest idea of what they do, but was listed in another help forum.
Now why I want to connect to my modem directly: I have been suffering insufferable speeds from my ISP and was wondering if it was due to my router, which I've power cycled several times and same with my modem. I also have quite a bit of things connected to my router via smart home things, so I was wondering if my speeds were due to that. I just ran into this issue for the first time and it is bugging me so I'd like to know why I am having this error.
I'm running Windows 10 on both PC's...just using the network port on the mobo. I have a ARRIS modem and a Linksy router.
Any insight would be helpful, thanks
