Wndows 10 activation help

I own a genuine version of windows 8 Pro, it was updated to 8.1 and my registry got corrupted, so i installed windows 8 again but a pirated version because i didn't have my disc on me. I support microsoft so when I upgraded to windows 10 I tried to change my key to my genuine one, but I get an error when trying to change the fake key to my genuine key. error code is 0xc004e016. I tried to contact microsoft support but I was on hold for around an hour when i gave up.
This is a software issue so i don't think hardware will be relevant but I listed it below anyway.

Gigabyte G1 Sniper A88X
Gigabyte r927xoc-2gd (R9 270X)
corsair neutron 64g SSD (Primary Drive)

it is a genuine iso of windows 8. It includes Pro. Use your product key to install it, then update everything to 8.1 and fully update. Then run the windows 10 upgrade assistant. report back

I reinstalled 8, then updated to 8.1, then dowloaded Windows 10 again, but the error still persists, My windows still runs perfectly fine, with the right key , but I can't change it. I'll just ignore it but thanks.
