"Wolfenstein New Order" Graphics Problem (GTX 780 ti)

So I bought this game to play on release day, and it's seriously buggy. That's despite the fact that I have a high-end system with the latest drivers. . . . Womp! :sarcastic:

To be fair, the first hour or so of Wolfenstein New Order was amazing, smooth, and beautiful. But then it went seriously haywire. The first of two problems was that the frames went down to 1 fps (and stayed there at random times), and the second thing was that serious artifacting began popping up - distracting! (See video below). This persisted throughout every combination of graphical settings that I tried from min to max, and each setting in between. All configurations exhibited the same problems, and going through all those settings actually took about 30 minutes.

My full specs are in my signature (GTX 780 ti on a 3930k with 32 GB RAM), and they are definitely not the issue. It's most certainly software related, and from reading on line, I am not the only person having graphical issues with Wolfenstein New Order.

To make things clearer, I've uploaded a video to YouTube that goes through everything in detail. Take a look at it, and hopefully you can come up with something. Thanks!

i shouldn't ask but.............. got another card to try. any card???? and what about a card from the other team? maybe even borrow one?

edit: i've seen stuff like this in the past but the fix eludes me. also, did you try running the game without the physx card? 780 only. or did you pull the 780 and try the 750 only?

did you try running with adaptive vsync running?
I have Steam set to automatically update the game before each launch, and it said "Downloading" for a few minutes before the first launch. Now it says the game's up to date. I'm guessing that's because of the update.

Also, while I did say this in the video, I didn't mention it in my post (will edit): I've tried every combination of graphical settings from min to max (and each setting in between), which actually took about 30 minutes to go through. All configurations exhibited the same problems. Some people reported that turning off reflections helped, but it didn't work for me. Sad days are upon us

Luckily (touch wood) I haven't had any of the issues I've seen reported online yet.

potential artifact fix Nvidia Control Panel and turn off Triple Buffering and adjust the vertical sync to “Use the 3D application settings.”

I can try the 750 ti today. Not sure why it would be my card, but it's worth a shot. Will report back.

I've tried a lot of combinations of settings in Nvidia Control Panel, but I wasn't methodical about going through all of them (there's too many). I did turn Vsync off, and I think I played with the tripple buffering, but I'll confirm tonight.

Yeah, it's annoying to pay $60 for something that doesn't work. The reason you guy something on launch day is to play it then. Spent more time trying to fix the game than I've actually spent playing it on launch day. www.fail.com/i-should-get-a-partial-refund.htm

At least my machine isn't primarily a gaming machine. I'd be super bummed if I spent all this money on a gaming-only computer just to have this many issue. Oh well, Borderlands 2 still works - old faithful!

yeah, this happens too much lately

The game blatantly doesn't go through sufficient QA and gets released riddled with bugs

BF4 and X Rebirth might as well have been classified as beta releases considering how many bugs they had on launch

Wolfenstein is going to have release day issues as it is a OpenGL game, like Rage was. The problem is that neither Nvidia or AMD give any attention to OpenGL. Nvidia may give a tad more attention, but both give it a back seat to DirectX and as a result, these problems are very common on the extremely rare OpenGL game that is released.

You'll likely just have to wait for new patches and drivers, and make sure to try the Beta drivers.

Yeah, I'll try all the Vsync options. In my past experience adaptive Vsync was not as good as normal Vsync, but - like I said - I'll give it a shot.

My guess is that you and I are in the same boat about this being game issue requiring an update, or perhaps a driver issue. At this point, it might just come down to a game of wait-and-see. We'll see 😛

Not yet. I'm at work until 5:00. Yesterday, I was all stoked to get home and try it. Instead of playing, I typed up this thread. Ha - so much for that. Anyway, I can discuss but not act until I get home.

Good news! I works!!!

The trick for me turned out to be disabling triple-buffering in Nvidia Control Panel. Turning off Vsync in-game also worked, but it introduced tearing. The compromise was to force off triple buffering. Not sure why that caused such crazy issues, but it seems that it did. Now the game is very nice on my 780 ti.

Just a note to people running this on a 750 ti, I tried it on my 750 ti today. It was actually somewhat playable at max settings. The game ran at about 28-32 fps. Turning a few things down gave fluid gameplay, and I couldn't really notice a giant different in quality compared to max settings on my 780 ti. It seems that there are just a few very inefficient settings in games that eat up more than their fair share of computer power.

This game totally works on a 750 ti, and it looks great!
