wont download microsoft updates

technically impaired but even so I would think the updates that Microsoft sends should be able to download to my desk top. got this piece of crap in jan. 2013 and since then it tries to download updates then uninstalls them . am I crazy? should this be happening ?

is your version of windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8? and is the version of it geniune?

In addition to what JDHD said,

Make sure your date and time are correct on your pc.
If they are, try downloading / installing the updates 1 by 1 instead of in bulk.

Especially the year! I could not validate my windows because of the time and I smacked myself in the face after figuring this out
